In the recent EU parliamentary elections, Marine Le Pen’s party won 30 percent of the vote, compared with 14.6 percent by Macron’s party. Following this defeat, Emmanuel Macron called for general elections on July 30 and a second round on July 7.
Many economists, politicians, and political analysts have dismissed this move as a big gamble, believing it will be very difficult for Macron to win the election. While no one can predict the complete victory of either party, I think Macron’s decision is a smart tactic. Waiting until 2027 for the general elections is likely to be more detrimental than holding them now.
Economic Context
A French debt crisis has been simmering for years. The country’s credit rating has been downgraded twice in the last six months, and its overall debt burden has soared to 112% of GDP. France now ranks third in the world for total outstanding debt, behind only Japan and the United States, both of which have larger economies and their own currencies.
France has not balanced its budget for 50 years. Even with the Eurozone economy recovering from the pandemic, France is still running a deficit of 5.1% of GDP this year, well ahead of its forecast level.
Macron’s Campaign: A Smart Tactic?
In my opinion, Macron’s campaign strategy is smart because it could enable him to continue his rule for another five years.
Support from Leftists and Unions
It would have been impossible for Macron to come to power without the support of the leftists and the unions in the previous elections. They all voted for him out of fear that Marine Le Pen would win. This situation is repeating itself now, with Marine Le Pen’s party increasingly threatening and having greater hopes of winning a majority in parliament.
The official media, along with leftists and unions, consciously remind us that the extreme right is growing. This benefits Macron, as he needs to exhaust himself less in the election campaign. The media and the leftist support prefer Macron to win.
Why Fear Marine Le Pen?
In my opinion, Marine Le Pen is as dangerous to workers and society as Macron and other European statesmen. Whoever is in power is bound by the state and the system. They cannot step outside this circle without breaking themselves.
What can the arrival of Marine Le Pen or any other extreme right in France do? Can they send all the Muslims, immigrants, and refugees back? Can they ban abortion in a country like France? Can they close the borders to immigrants and refugees completely? Can they make mass arrests and easily repress people? Can they reduce and maintain workers’ existing wages and entitlements?
I believe the answer to all these questions is no. Firstly, the French people are resilient. Secondly, the system does not allow such drastic changes because it would be detrimental to itself. Most importantly, if the extreme right were to implement such measures, it would lead to their downfall, loss of votes, and support, ultimately diminishing their chances of growing and coming back to power.
“We didn’t fight for this,” said a woman who was very active during the ANC’s struggle against the pre-1994 racist regime.
Thirty years after the end of apartheid, it is the world’s most unequal and most dangerous country , with almost zero economic growth in a decade, with nearly half of adults unemployed. Corruption is rampant, crime is rampant and the economy is in crisis.
Mandela’s party admits that they have made a mistake and have not done much for the people. But will the people trust them in tomorrow’s elections, Wednesday, 29/05???
This is despite widespread poverty, 40% high unemployment. Even three years ago, people took to the streets and expressed their grief and anger over what was done to them, which was the burning and looting of shops. Is the election fair?? It’s a question and the answer is very obvious, but people don’t trust themselves and don’t look for another alternative, and they forget the experience that election only changes the players, not the game. Or, as anarchist feminist Emma Goldman puts it: If elections had changed anything, they would have been banned long ago.

Already arrested and sentenced to six months in prison for “dissemination of propaganda against the State” in September 2021 due to his texts against the Islamist theocratic regime, then arrested in October 2022 for “incitement to sedition” during the revolt “ Woman, life, freedom”, Toomaj Salehi is finally sentenced to six years and three months in prison in July 2023 with a ban on practicing music. The artist was arrested again shortly after his release from prison in November 2023 and has just been sentenced to death on April 24, 2024 for “corruption on Earth”. He declared, like Bakunin:
“I thought the saddest situation for a person was to be alone under torture, now I understand that being the only one to be released while the others are still in prison is even more bitter.”
Last November, Toomaj was able to meet the activist against the compulsory veil, Sepideh Rashnu, a woman who must serve a four-year prison sentence. Then, in Evin prison (Tehran), in January of this year, he joined the hunger strike of Narges Mohammadi, human rights activist, a woman who is the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize winner, sentenced for having denounced religious dictatorship and its oppression against women.
On the evening of April 24, a banner depicting Toomaj Salehi was hung from a bridge on the Modares – Tehran highway to protest the verdict.
Art can be a formidable vector of expression and resistance in the face of repression, the authorities try in vain to silence Toomaj by sentencing him to death, his songs will continue to live and gather people together!
Against the increasingly numerous executions in Iran, for the release of Toomaj and all the people who pay with their freedom and their lives, their activism for the life and freedom of all,

Call for Participation: Balkan Anarchist Bookfair 2024
With great excitement we announce that, for the first time ever, the 16th edition of Balkan Anarchist Bookfair (BAB) will be held in Prishtina, Kosova, from 5th – 7th of July 2024. BAB is not merely a platform to promote books, but also place to exchange information and ideas, create new initiatives, and strengthen organizations. As such, for more than 20 years, it stands as a testament to our collective commitment to solidarity, resistance, and collaboration across the artificial borders of Balkans.
BAB comes at a crucial time when the capital is experiencing its regular accumulation crisis, the fires of war are ravaging across the world, putting us at the brink of a world war, and fascism, in its explicit form, is spreading like wildfire. States are getting more militarized and the populations are increasingly policed, breaking apart communities and bonds of solidarity. And with any type of dissent oppressed, the capital runs freely, ever expanding to new sources of exploitation.
Balkans is no exception. We are witnessing the ever-rising militarization of Balkan countries, with ever growing stockpile of weapons and technologies with the plan of introducing mandatory military services. And under the guise of national interest and through racial nationalist discourse more oppressive methods of population control have been introduced, often to detriment of ethnic, social and political minorities. Political power has been further centralized and political repression has been conducted more openly, whereas the political organizations have been rendered impotent through NGO-isation, reflecting the logic of neoliberalism that seeped into every spore of political, social and cultural life.
At the same time the patriarchy, an integral part of capitalist exploitation, creates an ever-hostile environment for all, but especially women, and LGBTQI+ community, with growing number of femicide and physical attacks, maintaining hostile environment both in public and private spheres, as well as through attempts to control our bodies. This same patriarchal logic gives rise to both religious zealotry, whose false antagonism with national conservatism only reinforce the patriarchal system.
On an international scale, the Balkans play a crucial role in global politics. Geopolitical maneuvers by NATO and the Russian Federation maintain direct influence over the region. Simultaneously, the neo-liberal reforms have already given access to international capital, particularly the capital from the EU, China and Turkey, which gained control over all essential public infrastructure throughout Balkans. And while Balkan is interconnected with international markets of exploitation, now it becomes further interconnected in its population and movement control for benefit of centers of capital. Balkan now shifts from already established borderland of fortress Europe, to more of a direct “forward base” for migrant population control of the latter, by, among others, hosting migrant detention centers such as the one planned in Albania on behalf of Italy.
As anarchists, we have always showed our commitment to organize across borders, create structures of solidarity and find ways to resist oppression. Today, again, faced with all of the above challenges that as people of Balkans we are facing, we again must find our strength and ways to respond to the structures of oppression with utter most urgency.
Thus, again this year, as in previous BABs, we call upon anarchist publishing houses and initiatives, as well as all international anarchist and anti-authoritarian movements from the geographies of the Balkans and beyond to plan their participation in the BAB2024 in Prishtina. We welcome all the interested people and groups to join in the process of organizing the event.

Thirrje për pjesëmarrje: Panairi Ballkanik Anarkist i Librit – BAB2024
Me shumë kënaqësi dhe entuziazëm ju njoftojmë se edicioni i 16-të i Panairit Ballkanik Anarkist të Librit (Balkan Anarchist Bookfair – BAB2024), për herë të parë, do të mbahet në Prishtinë, nga data 5 deri më 7 korrik 2024. Ky panair nuk është thjesht një platformë për promovimin e librave, por edhe mundësi për të shkëmbyer ide dhe informata, për të krijuar nisma të reja dhe për të përforcuar organizatat anarkiste të rajonit. Për më shumë se 20 vjet, ky panair është dëshmi e përkushtimit tonë kolektiv për solidaritet, rezistencë dhe bashkëpunim përtej kufijve artificialë të Ballkanit.
BAB-i i këtij viti organizohet në kohë vendimtare për të gjithë ne. Në kohë që kapitali është duke e përjetuar krizën e tij ciklike të akumulimit, zjarret e luftës po ndizen anembanë globit duke na vënë në prag të një lufte botërore, e ndërkohë që fashizmi, në formën e tij klasike, është rishfaqur dhe po merr hov përsëri. Çdo ditë e më shumë, shtetet po militarizohen dhe popullata po vëhet nën vëzhgim dhe kontrollë më të rreptë, komunitetet po shkatërrohen, solidariteteti po shpërbëhet, e çdo lloj disidence po shtypet. Kësisoji, kapitali ka rrugë të lirë për tu zgjeruar drejt burimeve të reja për eksploatim.
Kjo është po ashtu e vertetë për Ballkanin. Ne jemi dëshmitarë të rritjes së vazhdueshme të militarizimit të shteteve të Ballkanit që rregulisht blejnë armë e teknologji të reja, si dhe kanë plane të rikthejnë shërbimin e detyrueshëm ushtarak. Shtuar kësaj, nën maskën e interesit kombëtar dhe përmes diskursit nacionalist e racor, shtetet çdo ditë e më shumë janë duke përdorë metoda shtypëse kundrejt popullatave, nga të cilat më së shpeshti pësojnë pakicat etnike, sociale e ato politike. Pushteti politik është centralizuar edhe më tej, represioni politik po bëhet më prezent, ndërsa organizatat politike janë shëndrruar në struktura impotente nëpërmjet OJQ-izimit të tyre, gjë që reflekton logjikën neoliberale që tanimë depërtoj në çdo pore të jetës politike, sociale e kulturore.
Në të njëjtën kohë, patriarkati, kjo pjesë përbërëse e kapitalizmit eksploatues e shtypës, krijon një mjedis gjithnjë e më armiqësor, si në sferën publike ashtu edhe në atë private, veçanërisht për gratë dhe komunitetin LGBTQI+, që çdo ditë përjetojnë sulme fizike e vrasje, si dhe përpjekje për të kontrolluar trupat e tyre. E njëjta logjikë patriarkale sjell edhe esktremizmin fetar dhe konservatizmin nacionalist, që si dy ide konservative, qëndrojnë në antagonizëm të rremë me njëra tjetrën ndërkohë që vetëm sa e përforcojnë patriarkatin.
Në nivel ndërkombëtar, Ballkani luan një rol të rëndësishëm në politikën globale. Manovrat gjeopolitike të NATOs dhe Federatës Ruse e mirëmbajnë ndikimin e drejtpërdrejtë të tyre në rajon. Njëkohësisht, reformat neo-liberale tanimë i dhanë qasje kapitalit ndërkombëtar, veçanërisht atij nga BE-ja, Turqia e Kina, dhe i dhanë kontroll mbi të gjithë infrastrukturën publike thelbësore. Dhe ndërsa Ballkani është i ndërlidhur me tregjet eksploatuese ndërkombëtare, tani gjithashtu bëhet pjesë përbërëse e kontrolit të popullatave dhe lëvizjës së tyre për hirë të qendrave të kapitalit. Ballkani tashmë është duke e ndryshuar rrolin nga zona kufitare e të ashtuquajturës “Bastioni Evropian”, në një kullë paraje në kontrollin e lëvizjsës së migrantëve, sikurse në rastin e Shqipërisë që është në proces të themelimit të qendrës së mbajtjes për migranta që kanë destinacion Italinë.
Ne si anarkistë, gjithnjë e kemi treguar gaditshmërinë tonë për t’u organizuar përtej kufijve, për të krijuar struktura të solidaritetit dhe për të gjetur mënyra për t’i rezistuar shtypjes. Edhe tani, duke u ballafaquar me sfidat e lartpërmendura, ne përsëri duhet ta gjejmë forcën dhe të krijojmë mënyra për t’iu përgjigjur këtyre strukturave shtypëse.
Rrjedhimisht, edhe këtë vit, si edicionet e mëparshme të BAB-it , u bëjmë thirrje shtëpive dhe iniciativave botuese anarkiste, si dhe të gjitha lëvizjeve, grupeve dhe individëve anarkist dhe antiautoritar të gjeografive të Ballkanit, dhe përtej, që të planifikojnë pjesëmarrjen e tyre në BAB2024 në Prishtinë. Mirëpresim të gjithë të interesuarit dhe grupet që të bashkohen në procesin e organizimit të panairit.

بحماس كبير، نعلن أنه، ولأول مرة على الإطلاق، ستعقد النسخة السادسة عشرة من معرض البلقان اللاسلطوي للكتاب (BAB) في بريشتينا، كوسوفا، في الفترة من ٥ إلى ٧ يوليو ٢٠٢٤. BAB ليس مجرد منصة للترويج للكتب، ولكنه مكان أيضًا لتبادل المعلومات والأفكار وإنشاء مبادرات جديدة وتعزيز المنظمات. وعلى هذا النحو، وعلى مدى أكثر من عشرين عاما، كان هذا بمثابة شهادة على التزامنا الجماعي بالتضامن والمقاومة والتعاون عبر الحدود المصطنعة لمنطقة البلقان.
يأتي BAB في وقت حرج حيث تعاني العاصمة من أزمة تراكم منتظمة، ونيران الحرب تجتاح جميع أنحاء العالم، مما يضعنا على شفا حرب عالمية، والفاشية، في شكلها الصريح، تنتشر كالنار في الهشيم. أصبحت الدول أكثر عسكرة، وتتزايد مراقبة السكان، مما يؤدي إلى تفكك المجتمعات وروابط التضامن. ومع قمع أي نوع من المعارضة، فإن رأس المال يتحرك بحرية، ويتوسع باستمرار إلى مصادر جديدة للاستغلال.
ومنطقة البلقان ليست استثناء. إننا نشهد تزايدا مستمرا في عسكرة دول البلقان، مع وجود مخزون متزايد من الأسلحة والتكنولوجيات مع خطة لإدخال الخدمات العسكرية الإلزامية. وتحت ستار المصلحة الوطنية ومن خلال الخطاب القومي العنصري، تم إدخال أساليب أكثر قمعية للتحكم في السكان، على حساب الأقليات العرقية والاجتماعية والسياسية في كثير من الأحيان. وقد أصبحت السلطة السياسية أكثر مركزية، وتم ممارسة القمع السياسي بشكل أكثر صراحة، في حين أصبحت المنظمات السياسية عاجزة من خلال تحويل المنظمات غير الحكومية، مما يعكس منطق الليبرالية الجديدة التي تسربت إلى كل مجال من مجالات الحياة السياسية والاجتماعية والثقافية.

فراخوان شرکت در: نمایشگاه کتاب آنارشیستی بالکان ۲۰۲۴
با خوشحالی اعلام می کنیم که برای اولین بار، شانزدهمین دوره نمایشگاه کتاب آنارشیست بالکان (BAB) در پریشتینا، کوزوو، از ۵ ـ ۷ ژوئیه ۲۰۲۴ برگزار خواهد شد. نمایشگاه کتاب آنارشیستی صرفاً نه تنها بستری برای ترویج کتاب نیست، بلکه مکانی برای تبادل اطلاعات و ایده ها، ایجاد ابتکارات جدید و تقویت سازمان ها است. در سراسر مرزهای مصنوعی بالکان بیش از ۲۰ سال بعنوان سندی برای همبستگی، مقاومت و همکاری است.
نمایشگاە کتاب آنارشیستی بالکان در زمان حساسی برگزار می شود که سرمایە بحران انباشت منظم خود را تجربه می کند، آتش جنگ در سراسر جهان در حال گسترش است و ما را در آستانه یک جنگ جهانی قرار می دهد و فاشیسم، به سرعت، مانند آتشی در حال گسترش است. ایالت ها بیشتر نظامی می شوند و جمعیت ها به طور فزاینده ای تحت نظارت پلیس قرار می گیرند و جوامع و پیوندهای همبستگی را از هم می پاشند. و با هر نوع مخالفی که سرکوب می شود، سرمایه می تواند آزادانه توسعه پیدا کند و همواره راه را برای منابع جدید استثمار باز می کند.
بالکان نیز از این قاعده مستثنی نیست. ما شاهد نظامی شدن روزافزون کشورهای بالکان هستیم، با خرید روزافزون تسلیحات و فناوری ها، با طرح اجباری کردن خدمت سربازی. تحت پوشش منافع ملی و از طریق گفتمان نژادپرستانه ـ ناسیونالیستی، روش های سرکوبگرانه را برای کنترل انسان ها بکار می گیرند که اغلب به ضرر اقلیت های قومی، اجتماعی و سیاسی است. قدرت سیاسی بیشتر متمرکز شده و سرکوب سیاسی آشکارتر انجام شده است، در حالی که سازمانهای سیاسی از طریق (سازمان های مردمنهاد) NGO سازی ناتوان شدهاند، که منعکسکننده منطق نئولیبرالیسم است و این در تمام هاگهای زندگی سیاسی، اجتماعی و فرهنگی نفوذ کرده است.
همزمان پدرسالاری بخشی جدایی ناپذیر از استثمار سیستم سرمایه داری است و باعث فضایی خشونت بار برای همگان، به ویژه زنان، و جامعه الجیبیتی+ با آمار فزاینده زن کشی و حملات فیزیکی، حفظ محیطی خشونت بار چه در حوزه عمومی و چه در حوزه خصوصی است. و حتی کوشش برای کنترل بدن ما زنان. همین منطق مردسالارانه باعث ایجاد تعصب مذهبی می شود، که تضاد کاذب آن با محافظه کاری ملی تنها باعث تقویت نظام پدرسالاری می شود.
در سطح بین المللی، بالکان نقش مهمی در سیاست جهانی ایفا می کند. مانورهای ژئوپلیتیک ناتو و فدراسیون روسیه نفوذ مستقیم در منطقه دارند. همزمان، اصلاحات نئولیبرالی قبلاً به سرمایه بین المللی دسترسی پیدا کرده است، به ویژه سرمایه های متعلق به اتحادیه اروپا، چین و ترکیه تمام زیرساخت های عمومی اساسی را در سراسر بالکان تحت کنترل خود درآورده اند. و در حالی که بالکان با بازارهای بین المللی استثمار همکاری می کند، اکنون در کنترل جمعیت و جابجایی انسان ها به نفع مراکز سرمایه با هم ارتباط نزدیک تری پیدا کرده اند. بالکان اکنون از یک منطقه مرزی از قبل ایجاد شده، به یک “پایگاه مستقیم” در اروپا به یک منطقه برای کنترل مهاجرین و همینطور با ایجاد کمپ های پذیرش برای مهاجران، مانند اردوگاهی که از طرف ایتالیا در آلبانی برنامه ریزی شده بود تبدیل شده است.
ما همیشه بعنوان آنارشیست ها متعهد به سازماندهی در آن سوی مرزها، ایجاد ساختارهای همبستگی و یافتن راه هایی برای مقاومت در برابر ظلم و ستم بوده ایم. امروز، در مواجهه با تمام چالش های فوق که به عنوان مردم بالکان با آن مواجه هستیم، باید قدرت و راه هایی پیدا کرده تا هر چه سریع تر برای مقابله با ساختارهای ظلم و ستم عکس العمل نشان دهیم .
بنابراین، امسال نیز اعلام می می کنیم که مانند نمایشگاه های کتاب آنارشیستی قبلی، از انتشارات و ابتکارات آنارشیستی و همچنین از تمام جنبش های بین المللی آنارشیستی و ضد استبدادی از مناطق جغرافیایی بالکان و فراتر از آن می خواهیم تا برای شرکت در نمایشگاه کتاب آنارشیستی سال ۲۰۲۴ در پریشتینا برنامه ریزی کنند. از تمامی افراد و گروه های علاقه مند برای شرکت در روند برگزاری این رویداد استقبال می کنیم.

فراخوان کمسیون روابطهای فدراسیون بین المللی آنارشیست در تاریخ ۴ تا ۵ نوامبر ۲۰۲۳ در آتن گرد هم آمد تا در مورد افکار و عملکرد فدراسیونهای أعضاء بحث و تبادل نظر کند. ما در حال حاضر به ویژه در جهت سیاست های ضد نظامی گری فعالیت می کنیم، تشدید جنگ ها در دوره کنونی، که شناختهشدهترین آنها مانند درگیریهای غزه، اوکراین یا سودان است، این مشکل جهانی است و نباید گذاشت که بدست فراموشی سپرده شود.
جنگ هرگز یک راه حل نبوده، بلکه وسیله ای در دست سرمایه داری و دولت برای بازتولید اشکال سلطه، استثمار، مردسالاری و ستم است. جنگ باعث تشدید خشونت قدرت و سلسله مراتب است. خیلی ها بحث در مورد جنایات های جنگی می کنند، ما می گوییم جنگ همیشه جنایت است. همه جنگ ها ارتکاب جنایت بر علیه بشریت است. و برای توجیح آن همیشه از استدلال هایی مانند ناسیونالیسم استفاده می شود، در حالی که انسان ها توسط عده ای استثمار می شوند، سرمایه داری و دولت تلاش می کنند از طریق تبلیغات جنگی برای تضغیف در گیری های اجتماعی استفاده کرده و آن را منافع مشترک توجیح کنند.
ما آنارشیست ها با همه مرزها، دولت ها، ارتش ها و اصل حاکمیت سرزمینی مخالفیم. ما ایدههای خود را در مورد همبستگی بینالمللی پیشنهاد میکنیم و فعالانه از همه قربانیان جنگ و همه کسانی که جنگ را از هر طرف محکوم میکنند: مخالفان، فراریان، خرابکاران و افرادی که از جنگ فرار می کنند حمایت میکنیم.
ما از تمام اقدامات ضد نظامی گری که با اصول آنارشیستی ما همخوانی دارد، و همچنین از گروه ها، افراد و گروه هایی که در مقابل جنگ مقاومت کرده و با فعالیت های اجتماعی خود از طریق کمک به مردم، ترویج مبارزات اجتماعی و ادامه گسترش فرهنگ های ضد استبدادی علی رغم جنگ عمل می کنند، حمایت می کنیم.
فدراسیون های ما علاوه بر انتشار اطلاعات در باره فعالیت های علیه نظامی گری در عرصه بین المللی در جهت مقابله با تبلیغات جنگ از طریق مجلات، رادیوها و رسانه های خود، خواهان فعالیت هایی مانند:

The Commission of Relations of the International of Anarchist Federations gathered in Athens on 4-5 November 2023 to discuss and share thoughts and practices of our Federations. Currently, we are particularly active in antimilitarist activities, in a period that is characterised by the intensification of wars, of which the most known, such as the conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine or Sudan should not make forget the globality of the problem.
War is never a solution, but a way for capitalism and the state to reproduce forms of domination, exploitation, patriarchy and oppression. War is the exacerbation of the violence of power and hierarchy. Many people discuss war crimes, we say that war is always a crime. All wars are against the people and use arguments such as nationalism, putting oppressed people the ones against the others, trying to create illusions of common interests of all classes to undermine social conflicts through war propaganda.
We anarchists oppose all borders, states, armies and the very principle of territorial sovereignty. We propose our ideas of international solidarity, actively supporting all the victims of wars, and all those who refuse wars from all sides: objectors, deserters, saboteurs and people who escape the wars.
We support all antimilitarist actions that are in agreement with our anarchist principles, as well as those groups, individuals and collectives who resist the war making social work, helping people, promoting social struggles and continuing to spread anti-authoritarian cultures despite the war.
In addition of making international diffusion of these antimilitarist activities as a work of counter-information before war propaganda though their journals, radios and medias, our federations are promoting activities such as:
No to armies and to the armament industries and programs.
No to governments.
No to class domination.
No to war in any corner of the world, whether in Rojava / Syria, Ukraine, Karabakh, Palestine, Israel, etc. , or on other continents ! We have been and we will always be against all wars. Opposition to the war is one of the fundamental grounds against the class sovereignty and its worldwide capitalist system and against all the various governments in the world.
War for us anarchists is not only armed attacks and bombings of villages and cities. War is at the base of the class system, it’s the destruction of life’s resources and the deprivation of the oppressed majority from necessary needs for survival, It is the trading of information and science, it is taking people’s livelihoods, it is forcing people to flee their homeland, it is the repression and imprisonment of protesters, it is the assassination of anti–state militants, It is the authority building, it is electoral competition for superiority, it is merely the existence of class society.
Therefore, opposing armed warfare but turning a blind eye on hidden causes of the war is simply meaning accepting the class sovereignty and consequently calling political parties, militias and governments to cooperate in oppressing humanity, and to operate with skill in destroying the environment, to maintain the domination of the class society. This has always been the demand and the wish of the reformist movements that will only strengthen and protect class sovereignty and reinforce our oppression!
We have been and we will always be against the war ! This opposition is part of the broad and global class antagonism and as long as class societies, governments, borders and nationalist political identities remain, war will continue, because class society and classe system cannot survive without wars..
According to the experiences of the struggles of the world’s oppressed class, the first step in resisting armed wars is the direct and local resistance of the oppressed classes to the war inside the warring governments. Only through the reinforcement of the unity and resistance of our oppressed class can the cycles of arm production and arm sales be stopped and the battlefields be deserted. Without such antagonism of the oppressed class against the class system, it will be difficult to eradicate the wars permanently and even the pause of the armed warfare and the peace will be in the service and interests of the worldwide capitalist system!

Are disasters “natural” under the capitalist system?
Regarding the famous Lisbon earthquake of 1755, which struck the south of Western Europe and North west Africa that killed thousands of people, Rousseau notes in reply to Voltaire “nature did not construct twenty thousand houses of six to seven stories there, and … if the inhabitants of this great city had been more equally spread out and more lightly lodged, the damage would have been much less and perhaps of no account”
Compared to the damage caused by this earthquake in Turkey and Syria, the powerful earthquakes in Japan caused very little casualties, yet much less material damage. Neither human casualties, nor material damage can be compared to the earthquakes in our region.
As we have seen, the town of Erzin, near the epicentre, was not damaged and has become a shelter for 20,000 victims of other areas of the disaster. According to the Mayor and the construction contractor, this is due to the construction of low-rise buildings, to the efficiency and to complying with earthquake-resistant construction standards.
As a result, it is clear to us that under the class system, destructions and damages are not produced only by the impacts of natural disasters on the oppressed classes and deprived populations, but also and mainly by the negligence in construction quality standards and the disregard for earthquake resistance standards by the state for the sake of making greater profits.
Scientific research has also confirmed that some of the natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, droughts, and environmental pollution that cause death of thousands of people every year are the result of the ill planned objectives of the capitalists and their selfish monster companies. They, through total disregard of people’s health and their well beings, has turned the planet into a mean for their unique goal of making more profit by sacrificing the lives of the oppressed and the deprived majority.
The swindlers of those companies and the authorities of the state once again target all these disadvantaged.
10 countries in the world have more earthquakes than any other: Japan, Turkey, Iran, Peru, the United States, Italy, the Philippines, Mexico, China and Indonesia. There are many causes of earthquakes, but the most important are plate collisions, magma movement in volcanoes, changes in temperature or water pressure, and strong winds.
Unfortunately, what is fixed in the minds of the majority is seeing only one side of disasters, which is the narrative of God’s work or God’s wrath or that of the “natural” disasters and regarding the destructions and the losses as normal.
If we look at the history of the world’s regions, we see that before the modern industrial development, the expansion of giant manufacturing companies with their arrogant competitive pursuits and ill-intentioned activities, these natural disasters were not as frequently happening as nowadays.
What is clear is that, as the result of the egoistic capitalist system, natural disasters have a class trait and content. Whenever a natural disaster occurs, the majority of victims are the poor and the deprived majority, due to the density of the inhabitants in a small area and to the high-rise buildings, as well as the low quality of construction materials that cause flood, humidity and other risk producing elements. Furthermore, the earthquake protection engineering standards were ignored in the construction plans of the buildings.
If we look at the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, the above facts will become clear to us that the victims were mostly in the poor residential areas , in the places where there are houses and large buildings that were build by profiteering companies and authorities, for the aim of making more profits, and that obviously ignored all interest in taking preventive measures against any expected natural incidents in the construction of the housing units.
We have seen how the newest buildings, some of which were given to the people during the election campaign, “cheap accommodation for voting” have been destroyed worse than the old ones. This was like throwing cereals at birds to catch and then kill them. Sadly!, for the cheap optimism of the poor and working people who, by selling their votes for Erdogan and his party, those poor-quality buildings that were built for them became theirs mass graves.
We see hundreds of obvious evidences and statements in social media and even in the Turkish media about the corruption of the authorities that has spread to small officials, contractors and real estate companies within an interconnected network. Therefore, the health guidelines and safety requirements for the residents were not taken into account in the construction of the houses, but the profit and capital accumulation were the most fundamental goals!
Despite the advancement of technology, the availability of more information for prevention, for setting conditions and quality of construction for contractors, but, unfortunately, we see the number of earthquake victims are increasing time after time. For example, the 1999 earthquake killed more than 17,000 people, but this year’s death toll has risen to more than 45,000. Recent figures tell us that the death toll is over 52,000. More than 150,000 people were injured and thousands of families were displaced.
According to the reports and documents that have been revealed, so far, all the early warnings of earthquakes by experts and scientists in the field of geology, climate and natural sciences to the Turkish state and senior officials had been ignored. Considering the fact that the warnings were issued two years ago with a much worse disaster prediction instructions by a scientist and an expert who provided a video warnings and information about the occurrence of such a disaster, but the Turkish regime has not taken any steps to protect people’s lives.
In light of the above, the Turkish and Syrian governments are directly responsible for the deaths of all these people, of hundreds of thousands of injured and millions more displaced and of the devastated impacts on the surviving populations.
According to reports, Aid and rescue teams have arrived only after the third day to some people from poor and remote areas which is considered a waste of time to rescue those who were stuck under the rubble and the debris of the collapsed buildings and houses. Naturally, even if a person is in good health, he or she will die if he/she is trapped in a blocked space without food, drink, clean air or without possibilities to move for two weeks.
Worst of all is that of neglecting victims who were trapped under the stones and the debris in the Syrian earthquake. Until recently, the heads of state in Europe and the United States have been talking about Turkey and sympathising with Turkey rather than Syria, as if nothing had happened in Syria.
The occupied city of Afrin, which the Turkish regime occupied in 2018 after 58 days of heavy shelling, has now closed its gates to volunteers and aid workers.
We express our sympathy to the families of the victims. However, despite the nature of the tragedy, we accuse the inhuman global capitalist state, the Turkish and the Syrian authorities for the deaths, for the injured and for the million displaced victims. This is a targeted genocidal crime committed by this brutal class system of capital, by the Turkish and Syrian authorities themselves and their profiteering and bloodthirsty companies. We see this deliberate disregard by the state and its criminal officials before the earthquake and their negligence to rescue the victims under the collapsed buildings as their direct war of the capitalist class and their system that is waged against billions of workers.
