The housing crisis in Spain, like many other countries, has become a major problem, with rents rising by 80 percent in a decade, while housing costs have risen by 63 percent and 25,000 people are evicted annually.
The problems have brought people to the streets several times, but the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal, the disabled lady , who has lived in the property for 70 years, sparked resentment and unprecedented solidarity and support for more than two weeks until the prime minister decided to table a bill to sortout this issue.
On Friday, when he presented his bill to parliament because his minority government did not win enough votes, he decided to dissolve his government and call for a general election on November 29.
The importance of what happened is not whether the party re-, but the importance of activism, direct action, cooperation and support of the people that can force the statesmen and authorities to admit their problems and must be resolved.
