Thousands of students took to the streets of Tirana on Wednesday to protest rising tuition fees, corruption and lack of jobs after graduation. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama was re-elected for a fourth term in May, but there has been no change in people’s lives. Police launched a massive attack on the demonstrators using tear gas and water pressure, injuring six people and 23 policemen, and arresting 35 people. “This is a revolution. We are tired of peaceful protests. We will not stop until Rama resigns,” said Laura, a student. What is happening there complements a week-long series of demonstrations and protests by students in Paris and other cities.
